Developing Despite Distance helps young men in Detroit positively develop, despite the distance of their incarcerated parent.

Parental incarceration is real.

We know.

The facts of American parental incarceration

  • 2.3 million people are incarcerated

  • 50% of those in prison are parents

  • 2.7 million children have an incarcerated parent

  • 10 million children have had an incarcerated parent at some point in their lives

Developing Despite Distance, a My Brother's Keeper grant winner, is a youth mentoring and letter writing program that supports young men from Detroit who have incarcerated parents.
