Youth Advisory Board

3D's Youth Advisory Board is a group of young student leaders in Detroit sharing our voices, experiences, and ideas about youth experiencing parental incarceration because we’ve experienced it. Through evidence based Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) data collection, in 2025-2026, we gathered 335 total survey responses at 25+ Detroit middle school and high schools and found that 48.7% have had a parent or guardian in jail or prison. We partnered with Data Driven Detroit and D.A.Y.U.M by participating in workshops about research, data, advocacy, organizing, and storytelling. We presented our survey finding at the Youth Driven Spaces Conference. With intention, change is possible. Building off Year One, we plan to analyze and develop our collected data to advocate for representation in our schools and communities. We are empowered to use our voices!
